Katie originally started teaching as a Saturday and weekday helper at her old dance school. From working with their babies up to their adult classes.

She has danced from a young age and has taken part in yearly shows and displays in the area. She has danced several solo, duet, trio and troupe routines with her dance school and was also chosen for the lead of Cinderella in their Cinders pantomime in 2011.

Katie then went on to study dance at Dudley College and then finally at Wolverhampton Univeristy, where she completed her Dance Degree. Her degree focused on Jazz, Ballet and Contemporary, working from beginner level up to advanced. She also studied several teaching modules and a dance science module, which focused on strength, stamina, speed, balance, flexibility, warming up and cooling down, nutrition, injury prevention, goal setting as well as other sport psychology techniques. Katie uses all that she has learnt from her degree within her teaching, and finds that imagery really helps her get the best out of her students.

As well as her degree, Katie has received teaching certificates under the M.A.S.D. to Advanced Membership, completed to Honours standard. She teaches all lessons at the KLM School of Dance, and enjoyes every moment of it. Katie also uses her own time to make some of the costumes for the yearly show. Katie also films, edits, compiles and produces the DVD of the yearly show for her students to have, to reduce costings for students and parents.

Katie has recently completed her PGCE PCE, with the University of Wolverhampton, with a placement at Dudley College. Katie is now a fully qualified dance teacher at college level, but can also teach at GCSE level too. (June, 2015)

As well as teaching, Katie has also performed professionally for two event companies. Neil Hughes Extraordinary Event Entertainment and Production employs Katie as a meet and greet host or as a specialised Contortion act for parties and events. She also appears as a Can Can, Showgirl and Caberet Dancer for Plumerella Entertainment.

She also has links with two primary schools, and teachers several after school dance, and P.E. dance classes.

She believes dancing brings children out of their shell at a young age, whilst also teaching creativity, interpretation, concentration and determination. Dance also has a huge health benefit, from increasing stamina and general fitness, to improved flexibility, strength, speed, balance and co-ordination. But it is also fun!

Within our school we have three helpers:

  • Chloe Harrison - Currently studying her BTEC Dance Level 3

These helpers give up their spare time to help out with the younger students within the school, from completing warmups, corner work and learning their routines to help demonstrate.
